The Bahamas has recorded its largest number of COVID-19 cases in a single day.

As a result lockdown measures are to be re-imposed.

Yesterday Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis revealed there were 15 cases recorded in 24 hours.

The island opened its borders earlier this month.

Since then there have been 49 new cases.

The total number of cases in the Bahamas now sits at 153.

Dr. Minnis said it is time for tough restrictions on travel once again.

Private charters, pleasure crafts and yachts will be permitted.

All returning nationals and residents will require a negative PCR COVID-19 results from an accredited lab, to be presented to immigration on arrival.

Dr. Minnis said residents returning without results would be quarantined for 14 days.

In New Providence and Grand Bahama all beaches and parks will from today be closed to the public.

Other strict measures have been re-imposed in Grand Bahama, including restaurant closures, no domestic or international flights or vessels and there is a new curfew in effect.

The Prime Minister said the measures are aimed at protecting the people and saving the economy.

He also said a roadmap for the future is in the making.
