Former Prime Minister, Patrick Manning

The family of former Prime Minister, Patrick Manning is saying no to recommendations that he receive the order of the republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

The refusal was issued on behalf of the family by one of the former prime minister’s sons, Brian Manning, via a Facebook posting yesterday

Last week, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley said he will propose that Mr Manning be given the award posthumously.

But the manning family believes the best way to honour the life of the man who once led the country, would be the re-establishment and expansion of the Divine Echoes Orchestra initiative and the establishment of the Patrick Manning development fund at the International Finance Centre.

His son Brian Manning said these initiatives will continue to improve the lives of others into the foreseeable future, which is what Mr Manning’s life was all about.

Mr Manning died on July 2^nd. Since his death there have been many suggestions as to how he should be honoured. Some have even suggested the renaming of the International Waterfront and the Piarco International Airport.

However, Mr. Manning’s wife Hazel has said this is not something he would have wanted.
