A LIAT flight attendant is expected to appear before a magistrate in Barbados on drug related charges today. 33-year-old St. Lucian Deann Pat Portia Plummer has been charged with possession of five kilogrammes of cocaine, possession of 1.3 grammes of cannabis, possession with intent to supply cocaine, trafficking cocaine, and the importation of cocaine.
Ms. Plummer, who arrived in Barbados on Tuesday, was interviewed by the Drug Squad and was subsequently referred to customs. A search reportedly uncovered five kilogrammes of cocaine in her handbag.
A search warrant was later executed at her apartment and 1.3 grammes of cannabis were allegedly discovered. On Wednesday LIAT issued a statement confirming that one of its employees was detained in Barbados and was helping police with an investigation related to a drug find. The airline vowed to cooperate with the authorities if necessary.
