Pediatric emergency specialist Dr. Joanne Paul puts parents of newborn on notice, she says anything can happen.
Dr. Paul, a senior doctor and consultant for the nation’s regional health authorities says, infants should not be left unattended.
On Tuesday afternoon, two-month-old Amy Doodnath was found with a wound to her forehead.
She was rushed to the Siparia health facility, but died the same night.
The child’s death is now under police investigation.
Today Dr. Paul says, she is saddened by this occurrence and gives this advice.
Dr. Paul urged new mothers to exercise, mental and physical self-care.
She tells Newscentre, while post partum may not apply in this particular case, the effects must be noted.
Investigators have taken statements from the parents and are awaiting the results of an autopsy, at the Forensic Science Centre to determine, what caused Amy’s injuries and her death.
Officers from the Southwestern Division, Homicide Bureau and the child protection unit are continuing investigations.
