There is suspicion that the burnt body found hanging from a tree at Cumuto North Trace, is that of missing prison officer Alexander Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was reported missing on January 17^th.

Relatives of the 35-year-old father of four, began a search and on Sunday morning found a body hanging from a tree at Cumuto North Trace.

Police reports say, the teak field was some two kilometers from officer Johnson’s home.

The body was burnt and in a decomposing state.

Police have so far confirmed that a bush fire razed the area, hence the burnt body.

Relatives have reportedly recognized, the clothing as that of officer Johnson.

However, Prison Commissioner Deopersad Ramoutar is being cautious in accepting the news.

Meanwhile, the Prison Officers Association is convinced the body is that of Mr. Johnson.

Via voice note yesterday, president of the association Gerard Gordon said, he is saddened.

On Sunday, the police service said while there is a strong possibility that the body may be that of the prison officer, DNA testing is yet to be conducted to officially determine its identity.
