Government says, close to 320 firearms have been seized as state agencies intercept suspicious packages, coming into the region from the United States of America.
Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley says, this is as a result of a collaborative approach to the illegal gun trade between, the US and Caricom.
Dr. Rowley says, a report on January 10th this year shows the joint effort is bearing fruit.
He says, efforts are being made to bring the country’s security force, up to acceptable standards.
Prime Minister Rowley says, there is a positive outcome to be had working along with the United States, at the source end of the supply of the guns and ammunition.
He was speaking yesterday at the VIP lounge, at the Piarco International Airport, on his return from the 46th regular meeting of the Caricom heads of government in Guyana.
