A bandit is dead follwing a shootout with police. Reports say at around 9:30pm Central Division Officers responded to a call of a robbery at Malabar Extention in Arima.

The bandits are said to have made off with a vehicle worth 275 thousand dollars, 13 US dollars and a quantity of jewellery in a white vehicle. The vehicle was later intercepted in Caroni.

Police called on the suspect to surrender, but he attempted to run. A chase ensued followed by an exchange of gunfire. The suspect was shot and taken to hospital where he died after receiving treatment. The victim of the robbery was allowed to view the body, and positively identified him as one of the bandits.
