Gary Griffith says don’t blame him for leak

Former Commissioner of Police, Gary Griffith

Gary Griffith denies any claim that he was responsible for the leak of the special branch report on Cabinet member Foster Cummings.

Opposition Senator Jayanthi Lutchmedial put the report into the public space last weekend.

It told of a 2019 investigation into alleged wrongdoings involving Minister Cummings, who was at the time a Government Senator.

Fingers have pointed in the direction of Mr. Griffith who was then the Commissioner of Police.

This morning he said the accusers are giving him too much credit.

Mr. Griffith said it is not something he would do.

Minister Cummings has already denied the allegations of land grabbing and other corrupt practices.

But Opposition MP Dr. Roodal Moonilal feels the allegations are enough for the Joint Select Committee on national security to ponder.

At the Monday night forum of his United National Congress, Dr. Moonilal said the report must be treated with a high level of seriousness.

Dr. Moonilal also feels the police service should sit before the JSC.

Yesterday Acting Police Commissioner McDonald Jacob expressed his concern about the reported leak of the document.

Mr. Jacob called the leak distasteful.

National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds said one has to be careful when such leaks occur.

He is confident the police will do their job.
