Former Energy Minister Kevin Ramnarine is hailing the move by the National Gas Company as a good one.
The NGC has decided to freeze all salaries and benefits for workers for the rest of 2015 and 2016
On November 16th, the company out a memo to all staff informing them about the cutbacks saying it has been badly affected by low commodity prices.
Today Mr. Ramnarine says given the circumstances the NGC made the right choice. However, the former minister was quick to add there is no need for concern.
Mr Ramnarine says the NGC had to act in the best interest of the country’s coffers.
However, he is hoping the company would have consulted with the workers before the action was taken.
