From November 30th, commuters travelling on the San Fernando to Chaguanas, Curepe and Port of Spain routes will have to pay $2 more, this according to president of the San Fernando to Port of Spain Taxi Drivers Association, Hayden Whiskey.
Whiskey said that the increase has nothing to do with the increase in gasoline price and insisted that the association has been planning an increase since February.
He said, “An increase in gasoline is a minor issue. In fact we have been in discussion as early as February with regard to an increase.”
He said a meeting with members of the Port of Spain Taxi Drivers Association, the San Fernando to Chaguanas and San Fernando to Curepe Taxi Drivers Association took place last week Friday in Pointe-a-Pierre to discuss the issue of a fare increase.
“Of the 56 drivers who attended, 53 agreed with the increase, two were against and one walked out the meeting,” said Whiskey.
