Bishop Anstey Places First In Folk Choir. |
March 12th, 2010.
Bishop Anstey High School, Port of Spain, placed first in the Secondary Schools’ Folk Choir category of the 29th Biennial Music Festival at Queen’s Hall, St Ann’s, yesterday.
Singing ’Day-O’, the girls delivered a stirring performance, much to the delight of the crowd.
Dressed in straw hats and tattered clothes, the girls rendered an effortless presentation as they did their own version of the Harry Belafonte old folk song ’Day-O’, scoring 99 points. Bishop Anstey High School (East) came in second place with ’Run Fast’ while Poly Folk Choir was third.
With only one mark separating first, second and third place, adjudicator Dr Paul Johnson exclaimed, ’I really enjoyed this. Everyone was so great and the decision was extremely difficult’.
Johnson said, ’The level of competition was extremely high so what I looked for was impact, clarity in singing and entertainment.
Overall it was whose combination was the most electrifying.’
’I really have to commend Poly Folk Choir, their choreography and story line was very good and I also found it humorous as well,’ he added.
In the Class 23 Saxophone solo - Higher Grade (19 and under) which took place earlier, Joshua Devenish placed first, Arie Van Druten second and third Daniel Ryan.
Johnson said, ’I looked at technique and how clean they brought the piece across as well as the entertainment factor.
I must commend all the competitors since the saxophone is still an instrument not played very often.’
